Computing

A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world

At Cranmore Infant School we give all children access to a wide range of high-quality equipment including the use of computer hardware and software,  tablets, interactive whiteboards, projectors, recordable devices, cameras, programmable toys, e-mail and the internet.

We help children to develop the confidence and skills they need in order to be successful in this increasingly technological age.

Throughout the EYFS and KS1 curriculum, we teach children to make safe and sensible choices online. E-Safety is taught as an explicit subject as part of Computer Literacy, but is also inherent within general practice and when opportunities arise.

In Key Stage 1 children are taught about algorithms and simple programming. We use ICT to improve the quality of teaching and learning, to stimulate and motivate learners and to encourage independent and personalised learning for all.

We use the Purple Mash Computing scheme of work to teach Computing.

Online Safety is an important part of the learning and teaching and is interwoven into our curriculum.

We also have dedicated days to digital literacy in the year and assemblies on E-Safety

It is important to keep up to date with the ever changing digital world - We have a dedicated website area to support you and your child to stay safe online       -Click here for further information and support

When each year group starts their Purple Mash journey the unit start with Online Safety.  The children are spoken to about AUP - Acceptable User policy and discuss what is appropriate etiquette online and how to keep safe.

Purple Mash have AUP forms the children sign and Parents too for home learning

The children have specific vocabulary they learn in relation to the units in class.

These are the knowledge organisers which go alongside the units the children learn in class
