Music

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils  to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.

At Cranmore we use the Kapow scheme of work which states:

"Our Kapow Primary music scheme is first and foremost to help children to feel that they are musical and to develop a life-long love of music. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need to become confident performers, composers, and listeners. Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities."

We have a very musical school and aswell as regular class music lessons children have the opportunity to be in the school Choir, be part of a Rock steady band and learn to play the ocarina.

The children take part in regular singing both in class and assemblies. They have opportunities throughout the year to perform to an audience for productions e.g. Harvest, Christmas, Family assemblies and Leavers (Nursery and Year 2 classes)

The children are exposed to a variety of genres of music across the year and look at composers from different eras and music they have created.

We enjoy taking music into the community : to the local shopping centre and residentual homes throughout the year to perform.  We also take part in community art/music projects with the local council and our local schools.
